Why Love Gives Us Both the Dream and the Nightmare

profile

Dare to Live

I specialize in working with high achievers, individuals, and couples who appear successful on the outside yet privately struggle with a subtle but powerful form of Failure to Launch. They know they are capable of more, deeper intimacy, fuller expression, greater impact, yet something invisible keeps interrupting momentum. This is not about laziness or lack of discipline. It is about unresolved emotional patterns, nervous system conditioning, relational imprints, and the quiet disconnection from one’s own inner authority. My work helps you move from stalled potential to embodied action. From self doubt to grounded confidence. From external success to internal alignment. Clients develop emotional intelligence that is lived, not just understood. They cultivate spiritual intelligence that is practical, not abstract. The result is clarity, courage, and a sustainable sense of abundance that touches career, relationships, leadership, and purpose. My perspective is shaped by more than 22 years of personal growth and over a decade as a licensed therapist. I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy, neurofeedback, EMDR, neuroscience, mind body integration, Imago relationship principles, conscious parenting, and work with addictive patterns and gender specific challenges into a focused and strategic process designed to create measurable forward movement. I also bring lived experience. I understand what it means to rebuild, recalibrate, and consciously launch into a more aligned life. The science is clear: transformation does not require becoming someone else. It requires removing what is in the way of who you already are. You are far more powerful, emotionally intelligent, and spiritually resourced than you realize. If you are ready to fully launch, I am here to guide the process.

“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”
Carl Jung

Love Isn’t Just Here to Give Us What We Want

So now that we’re wrestling with the idea that love isn’t just here to give us what we want…
it’s also here to give us what we need.
It’s here to help us grow.

And no relationship does this quite like romantic partnership.

I recently heard in a post something along the lines of:

“Romantic love gives us the dream we always wanted—
and the nightmare we never wanted to face.”

That hit me hard.
Because it resonates so deeply.

The Mirror We Can’t Escape

No other relationship has the same power to see us, hear us, choose us, love us—and yes, sometimes abandon us—as romantic partnership.
Except maybe one: the relationship with our parents.

That’s why partnership can feel so familiar and so confusing all at once.

What often eludes us is that we’re not just relating to our partner as adults. We’re often relating to the younger versions of each other—the child, the teenager, the part that never got what it needed.

And that’s where things get messy.

Sometimes it’s the child in one of us trying to get love from the adult in the other. Other times, it’s two teenagers trying to love each other while still learning who they are. Or two wounded children asking the other to be the parent they never had.

And in those moments, it makes perfect sense that things can feel so trying, if not altogether impossible.

The Hard Truth

Science and research confirm what many of us already know deep down—there’s no escaping these dynamics.

(Ugh. Believe me, I’ve tried. 😂)

But here’s the good news:
We can become more aware of them.
We can begin to see when they’re playing out.
We can learn to understand, heal, and transform them—together.

I'm coming to understand that this is the real work of love.
Not to stay comfortable, but to grow conscious.

💭 Reflection for You

Take a few minutes this week and ask yourself:

  • When do I notice my “younger self” show up in my relationship?
  • What do they need that I can begin giving to myself?
  • Can I see my partner’s younger self with compassion, rather than criticism?

This is where deeper love begins—when we stop trying to fix each other and start trying to understand what’s really happening underneath.

Dare to surrender to what life and love want to do with you, through you, and for you.

I trust you found some value in this month's Newsletter! 🙌🏾
